'Avatar' is continuing to bring more laurels for filmmaker James Cameron as he has now been honoured by animal rights group PETA with the 2010 Proggy Award for Outstanding Feature Film.

The 55-year-old director has been awarded for the inspiring message in his Golden Globe-winning blockbuster film 'Avatar', which stresses the interconnectedness of nature and the importance of treating all living beings with respect and dignity, no matter how 'strange' or 'alien', PETA's website said.

"We hope viewers will come away from Avatar with a new way of looking at the world around them and the way we treat our fellow earthlings," PETA Senior Vice President Lisa Lange said in a statement.

Cameron will receive a framed certificate as well as a letter of congratulations from PETA who have applauded the movie's stunning special effects, which beautifully illustrate how unnecessary it is to subject animals to the stress of a film production.
