BREAKING NEWSS....Lahore mosques attacked, 30 feared killed

Heavily armed terrorists on Friday stormed two packed mosques of the minority Ahmadi sect in Lahore on Friday, firing indiscriminately with automatic weapons and lobbing grenades.
At least 30 people are feared killed in the apparently coordinated attacks by two groups of terrorists, who stormed into the mosques at around 1.45 pm local time. The terrorists targeted the mosques in Garhi Shahu and Model Town areas of Lahore.
Witnesses said two groups of attackers lobbed grenades and fired as they entered the mosques. Police and paramilitary forces surrounded the two mosques and took up positions on roads and roof tops around the mosques.
Geo News channel reported that a Punjabi wing of Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan claimed responsibility for the attacks.
The channel also reported that there were over 1,500 worshippers in the sprawling mosque complex at Model Town but this could not be officially confirmed. Reports said the firing was still continuing at both the sites.
IANS reports a Taliban group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
Suicide bombers struck at a market in Lahore city March 12, killing 45 and injuring over 100.
Pakistan has seen scores of attacks by groups of Islamist militants against government, Western and security force targets over the past three years. Lahore, the second largest city in the country and a vital a military and political centre, has been the scene of several.
Many Islamist militants believe it is permissible or honourable to kill non-Muslims, or even those Muslims who do not share their extreme views.
The Ahmadis call themselves Muslims but believe their founder declared himself a prophet centuries after Muhammad, who other Muslims believe was the final prophet. They have long been subject to informal and state-sanctioned discrimination in Pakistan.
The government has declared them a non-Muslim minority and they are prohibited from calling themselves Muslims or engaging in Muslim practices such as reciting Islamic prayers..

.BREAKING NEWS....Naxals target civilians; 65 killed in WB train sabotage.

At least 65 people were killed and over 200 were injured early Friday when the engine and 13 coaches of a Mumbai-bound passenger train derailed and were hit by a speeding goodstrain in West Bengal after Maoist sabotage, officials said.

The bodies of the passengers were removed from the mangled remains of the Howrah-Kurla Lokmanya Tilak Gyaneshwari Super Deluxe Express and the injured taken out with the help of gas cutters, a SouthEastern Railway spokesman said

The incident occurred at 1:30 am when the train was running between Khemasoli and Sardiya stations, about 135 km from here, South Eastern Railway officials said.
In Kolkata, Inspector General of Police (Law and Order) Surojit Karpurokayastha said that according to preliminary investigation, fish plates were found removed at the derailment site.
Earlier, Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee said the derailment followed a blast apparently triggered by Maoists who are observing a 'black week'.
"We suspect Maoist hand behind the blast," Member (Traffic) Railway Board Vivek Sahai said.
He said the driver of the train heard a loud explosion after which the train derailed. Railways are investigating if the tracks were tampered with, he said.
Five of the 13 derailed coaches fell on an adjacent track and were hit by a goods train coming from the opposite direction, Additional Superintendent of Police, Jhargram,
Mukesh Kumar said.

Indian Air Force helicopters were pressed into service at the accident spot to airlift some of the injured to the hospitals. Banerjee, who reached the accident spot, said a patrol engine had passed through the area half an hour earlier, but the timing of the blast proved disastrous with a portion of the line being blown away.
She announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh for the nearest relative of each of the dead and Rs 1 lakh for the injured.
This is the second Maoist attack on civilians this month. Naxals had blown up a civilian bus in Dantewada district of Chhattisgarh on May 17, killing at least 36 people, including 12 Special Police Officers.

couple stoned to death by villagers.. so sad..

A couple, who had eloped and married, was stoned to death in what appears to be a case of honour killing in Andhra Pradesh's Nizamabad district.

Irate residents of Krishnajivadi village rained stones on the couple after tying them to a pole, police said on Thursday.

The macabre incident occurred late Wednesday night in Telangana region, about 250 km from here.

Sunkara Srinivas, 32, belonging to the Scheduled Caste (SC), and 22-year-old Swapna Reddy, belonging to an upper caste, had eloped and married six months ago.

Swapna's family was against the alliance as Srinivas was from a lower caste and already married. He had two children from his first wife.

The newly married couple lived in Hyderabad for sometime as Srinivas was working as a computer operator in a private firm.

They returned to the village three days ago. Swapna's relatives called the couple on the pretext of discussing some issues. Following an argument, they started thrashing Srinivas and when Swapna tried to protect him, they attacked her as well.

The couple was then tied to a pole and the attackers, numbering about 30, pelted stones on them leading to their death.

Police has registered a case and arrested three people...

Air India aircraft overshoots runway, 158 dead

MANGALORE: At least 158 have been killed after an Air India Express aircraft from Dubai, carrying 160 passengers and six crew members, overshot the runway and ploughed into the forest while landing at the Mangalore airport on Saturday morning.

Eight people have been rescued and rushed to local hospitals, an Air India official said. Rescue operation was hampered by the thick smoke that engulfed the plane, airport authorities said.

Referring to those on-board the aircraft, chief minister of Karnataka, B S Yediyurappa, said: "They're all not alive".

At least 160 passengers have died in the crash," V.S. Acharya, home minister of Karnataka, earlier told reporters. "At least five to six people have been taken to hospital, their condition is not known."

The crash occurred at 6:03am. The aircraft was on fire, an Air India spokesperson said. About 25 fire tenders and ambulances are on the spot, authorities said.

The incident happened near a valley 10 km from the airport, Karnataka home minister V S Acharya said.

The flight IX-812, operated by a Boeing 737-800, had 163 adult passengers, 4 infants and 6 crew members on board.

Aviation sources said the aircraft overshot the runway, hit the fence and went beyond the boundary wall of the airport.

It was not immediately clear what caused the crash, although Mangalore deputy police commissioner R. Ramesh said the airport had been lashed by heavy rains which had hampered rescue efforts.

Television footage suggested the plane had partially broken up, with smoke billowing from the main fuselage, as rescue workers sought to douse the fire with foam and pulled bodies from the wreckage.

"The plane had broken into two. I jumped out of the plane after it crashed. I saw two other people also come out," Abdullah, a survivor from the plane, told local channel TV9 from hospital. "There was tyre-burst kind of noise. I tried to get out of the front but saw that there was a big fire. So I went back again and jumped out from there."

One television channel showed a fireman carrying in his arms what seemed to be the remains of a child.

Charred bodies and an engine lay in the forested terrain. "The flight had already landed. There was slight rain. The flight skidded off," eyewitness Mohiuddin Bava told a channel. "After that it caught fire. Villagers, everyone there, came to rescue. The plane wings are right in front of me now."

Aviation sources termed it an 'accident' instead of 'incident', they said. In aviation parlance an accident denotes causalities.

AI has opened helpline centre at Delhi Airport and the two numbers are 011-2565-6196 and 011-2560-3101. Mangalore Helpline number is 0824-2220422.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has announced a compensation of Rs 2 lakh each for the families of those killed in Mangalore air crash and Rs 50,000 for the injured from the PM's National Relief Fund.

Meanwhile, civil aviation minister Praful Patel has rushed to the spot. Congress president Sonia Gandhi also expressed grief and sorrow over the tragic air accident in Mangalore. In a message, she wished speedy recovery to those injured.

DGCA Director-General S N A Zaidi said, "we have received only preliminary reports regarding the accident. But we are waiting for the details including the number of passengers."

India's worst aviation accident occurred in 1996 when two passenger planes collided in mid-air near New Delhi with the loss of all 349 on board both flights.
