The Zanzibar Port Cooperation (ZPC) yesterday said the captain of MV Fatih which capsized at Malindi Port last week was to blame for the accident.
ZPC Technical Director Abdi Omar said the captain Ussi Ali Ussi gave wrong information on the exact number of passengers who were on board before the cargo ship capsized.
Omar told this paper that Captain Ussi had told the authorities that MV Fatih carried a 55 tone cargo, 25 passengers and a crew of 13.
According to him, the names of rescued passengers are Kassim Masoud Mansour from chakechake, Bakar Shaame Mussa (Wete), Abdallah Juma Muhidini (Shangani), Sabiha Juma Khamis (Sogea), Omar Ali Khamis, Rashid Haji Makame (Mwenge), Maulid Abduli (Kisiju), Hawa Juma Saleh (Kilwa) Ramadhan Juma Mohammed and Zainab Ali Kitima both from Dar es Salaam.
Others are Fatma Ali Salum (Wete), Hassan Punga (Kisiju), Fatma Khamis Juma (Dar es Salaam), Sharif Hamad Sharif (Dar es Salaam), Omar Khamis Mohammed (Dar es Salaam), Machano Mkwai Khamis (Mkwajuni), Tiba Mussa Kitiba (Gamba), Laila Ali Hakim (Dar es Salaam), Munira Hashim Lionga, (Bububu) and Halima Mussa Johari (Arusha).
They also include Janeth Falume Mleni (Kiwengwa), Awanias Mbiro (Songea), Sjarifa Seif Mwinyi (Mpendae), Hassan Juma Hassan (Chake Chake), Rehema Juma Kabwela (Dar es Salaam) and Sharifa Juma Msham (Dar es Salaam). Shaaban Haji Abdllah, Omar Salum Said, Ismail Hassan Ndota, Abass Khamis Abas and Gora Haji Kombo from Zanzibar.
